The Office of Integrative Activities works to break down disciplinary barriers in STEM: science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The office also focuses on expanding NSF's impact — working in partnership with the agency's directorates and offices on ways to unify its activities. It works across disciplinary boundaries to lead and coordinate strategic programs and opportunities that:
- Advance interdisciplinary research and innovation across the U.S.
- Develop critical infrastructure for the nation's STEM enterprise.
- Develop a diverse and engaged next generation of scientists and engineers.
Broadening Participation in STEM
NSF makes strategic investments to expand the opportunities in STEM to people of all racial, ethnic, geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations, gender identities and to persons with disabilities.
The Office of Integrative Activities manages two agencywide advisory committees.
Committee on Equal Opportunities in Science and Engineering
CEOSE advises NSF on approaches that encourage full participation of women, underrepresented racial/ethnic populations and persons with disabilities at all levels of the nation's STEM enterprise.
Advisory Committee for Environmental Research and Education
The committee provides recommendations and oversight concerning NSF's environmental research and education portfolio.
