Dr. Jonathan Kulwatno

Dr. Jonathan Kulwatno is a biomedical engineer with an expertise in biomaterials and pre-clinical research models (in vitro and in vivo) applied to regenerative therapies, cancer and military medicine. Originally from Miami, Florida, he earned his bachelor's degree in materials science and engineering at the University of Florida before earning his Ph. D. in biomedical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Before the AAAS fellowship, Jonathan was an ORISE orthopedic trauma research postdoctoral fellow at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences/Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
Aside from research, Kulwatno enjoys participation in community-focused groups to build connections between peers, create novel professional networks, and mentor future scientists and engineers. Likewise, he participated in entrepreneurial events due to his passion for translation and biotechnology. Kulwatno is also an avid video and board gamer who also casually plays volleyball.
Kulwatno’s hope for his tenure as a AAAS fellow at the U.S. National Science Foundation is to continue expanding his professional network while leveraging his passion and expertise to support the advancement of scientific and engineering technologies.
