Statement from the U.S. National Science Foundation on a recent report by the National Academy of Public Administration, "Assessing the Conditions for the Successful Establishment of the NSF's Directorate for Technology, Innovation and Partnerships"

As part of the "CHIPS and Science Act of 2022," the NSF Directorate for Technology, Innovation and Partnerships (TIP) was mandated to commission an independent report by the National Academy of Public Administration (the Academy). This report sought to assess whether and how the directorate has been constituted to effectively and efficiently deliver its mission to accelerate key technologies, address pressing societal, geostrategic and national challenges, and grow the American workforce in these areas; and to assess the directorate's plans for engaging with NSF's other directorates and offices, other federal agencies and beyond. 

Assistant Director for TIP Erwin Gianchandani said: 

"We are delighted to see the findings of the Academy's report, which acknowledge the tremendous efforts of the TIP and NSF team in launching and firmly establishing the agency’s first new directorate in more than three decades with initiatives and programs that are advancing American competitiveness. At the same time, we welcome the Academy's recommendations to further refine and strengthen our approach to sustain TIP, and we have already initiated steps to implement this expert guidance.

"We thank the Academy, especially the fellows who formed the study panel for the time and thought leadership that they voluntarily contributed toward this effort, and also the staff for their leadership and collaboration in formulating a balanced report that will undoubtedly benefit TIP, NSF and the nation’s innovation ecosystem in the months and years ahead."
