Tabbetha Dobbins is the Vice President for Research and Dean of the new School of Graduate Studies. She is also a Professor in the Dept. of Physics & Astronomy at Rowan University. Her degrees are: B.S. in Physics from Lincoln University (PA); M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania; and Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Penn State University. She then became and National Research Council (NRC) Post-doctoral Fellow at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) within the Materials Science and Engineering Laboratory. Her research has focused in the areas of synchrotron X-ray and neutron studies for understanding reaction mechanisms in metal hydrides.

Dr. Dobbins serves on the executive steering committees for the African Light Source Foundation and the LAAAMP (which stands for Light Sources for Africa, the Americas, southeast Asia and the Middle East Project). She also served on the Institute of Physics - Task Force for Underrepresentation of African Americans in Physics (TEAM-UP Task Force). The TEAM-UP Task Force members were recipients of the APS 2022 Excellence in Physics Education with a citation which reads: “For groundbreaking analysis revealing sources of persistent underrepresentation of African-Americans in physics and astronomy; recommendation of data-driven systemic strategies to increase the number of African-American physics bachelor’s degree recipients; and ways to catalyze cultural change.” She is passionate about research, inclusion, and mentoring.
