Important information for proposers

All proposals must be submitted in accordance with the requirements specified in this funding opportunity and in the NSF Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (PAPPG) that is in effect for the relevant due date to which the proposal is being submitted. It is the responsibility of the proposer to ensure that the proposal meets these requirements. Submitting a proposal prior to a specified deadline does not negate this requirement.

Preparing for ERC proposals

The NSF Division of Engineering Education and Centers does not plan to publish a solicitation for Planning Grants for Engineering Research Centers (ERCs) in fiscal year 2023.

We encourage the community to use information from previous ERC Planning Grant workshops that aimed to prepare teams to be better equipped to submit a strong ERC proposal. The workshop websites below provide slides and/or videos about the topics covered in the workshops. The topics cover all the fundamental components of an ERC as well as the approaches that NSF requires in the solicitation, such as team science, integration, and a systems engineering approach.

Note: While the content of each year’s presentations is similar, the range of speakers at each workshop shows how an ERC may be viewed through different lenses. The ERC Team welcomes you to select one, or watch all three.

In mid-2023, EEC plans to schedule a virtual Q&A session to answer questions regarding the current ERC solicitation and the Planning Grant workshop presentations. We may coordinate an in-person workshop in 2023 for this purpose. Sign up for NSF Email Updates to be alerted.
