Important information for proposers

All proposals must be submitted in accordance with the requirements specified in this funding opportunity and in the NSF Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (PAPPG) that is in effect for the relevant due date to which the proposal is being submitted. It is the responsibility of the proposer to ensure that the proposal meets these requirements. Submitting a proposal prior to a specified deadline does not negate this requirement.

Special Program Announcement

The Geography and Spatial Sciences (GSS) Program Description has been archived.  For individuals and groups interested in submitting proposals to the Geography and Spatial Sciences (GSS) Program for regular research project awards, the solicitation may be accessed via:  http://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=505034.  For doctoral students and advisors planning on submitting proposals for GSS Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Awards (GSS-DRI), the solicitation may be accessed via http://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=503621.

Links to sample funded proposals are not available on either site because NSF no longer permits posting of specific proposals. Proposals that do result in NSF awards are available from NSF by contacting the NSF Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) officer at foia@nsf.gov. FOIA requests for proposals should include reference to specific awards for which specific proposals are sought. It may take up to 30 days for a FOIA request to result in the requested materials, and there may be costs incurred in providing such materials. Many individuals find it easier and faster to contact the PIs of funded projects to ask whether the PIs will provide a copy of a funded proposal.  PIs are not obligated to provide proposals but many will do so.
