Join the National Science Foundation at the 3rd USA Science & Engineering Festival. Designed to inspire the next generation of scientists, the event is a free, family-friendly expo that allows kids and adults to participate in more than 3,000 hands-on activities and see more than 100 live stage performances. It takes place at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., on April 26 and 27 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
NSF will be there, showcasing a broad range of agency-funded projects with hands-on activities reflecting the diverse research NSF supports across all fields of science and engineering. Robots that go where none has gone before and interactive demonstrations that uncover the mysteries of tsunamis, bogs and spiders are just a few of the 23 NSF exhibits at the expo. For example, visitors to the "Creepy Crawly: spend a day in a spider's (many) shoes" demonstration by the University of Pittsburgh can explore the behavior, ecology and sensory systems of spiders. You can test spider aggressiveness, explore "web life" and participate in a quiz show. Daily stage performances, including a Wearable Technology Fashion Show, will add to audience understanding of the knowledge, innovation and educational resources resulting from investments in fundamental research.
