There are a lot of exciting activities going on in the Center for Engineering Logistics and Distribution! Please join us in Chicago on April 17, 2008 for the CELDi Industrial Advisory Board meeting. Our host hotel is the Sheraton Gateway Suites. The hotel offers complimentary shuttle service to and from O'Hare International Airport. We will provide a welcome reception at the hotel on Wednesday evening, April 16. Heavy appetizers and beverages will be served while attendees enjoy an opportunity to interact with other CELDi member representatives and researchers. We have several new members to welcome!
The conference begins on Thursday morning with special presentations on a number of Center activities. We have confirmed a distinguished guest speaker, Mr. Randy Lewis who is currently the Senior Vice President of Logistics and Distribution for Walgreens. Mr. Lewis oversees the flow of merchandise from suppliers to the stores and the operation of 11 major distribution centers nationwide. A twelfth opened in Anderson, S.C., in June 2007.
We will then transition to a review of current projects and a preview of the new research activities. Researchers and students will provide updates on current research during the poster presentation session. After lunch, the Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) will meet to consider and vote on proposals for the next Center-Designated Project(s). With up to $150,000 in funding available to allocate, each IAB vote is critical to this process. IAB Chairman Bill Giffen of Halliburton will lead the meeting where we will be highlighting new academic partners and member organizations. In addition, we will be selecting a date and venue for the Fall 2008 conference.
Special note to faculty: Dr. Cerry Klein, the new MES/SEE program manager at NSF will be making a presentation after lunch on research opportunities in his program at NSF. We hope getting insights into NSF funding priorities and opportunities is a valuable addition to the agenda for you.
Chicago is an exciting destination and one that we hope will be easily accessible for you. The meeting schedule was constructed to offer the most information in the shortest time. The condensed, high-impact agenda will accommodate late afternoon flights for those wishing to stay only one night. See you in Chicago!
