Position Summary

The Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences (SBE) Directorate is offering a detail opportunity to serve as the Acting Deputy Division Director, National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES). This detail is open to all qualified NSF employees and IPAs currently working at NSF in increments of 120 days.  For purposes of pay and benefits, the selectee will continue to encumber the position from which detailed.  The individual selected will be required to file an “Executive Branch Personnel Public Financial Disclosure Report” (SF-278) in accordance with the Ethics in Government Act of 1978 at the beginning and completion of the detail assignment.  The expected start date for this detail will be on or about December 19, 2022.

Position Description

Duties: The Acting Deputy Division Director will serve as a member of the SBE Directorate leadership team and assist the Division Director in providing leadership and direction to the NCSES Division. in collaboration with the Division Director, the Deputy will implement overall strategic planning and day-to­day management for the Center with respect to ongoing NCSES data collections, the development of new data collections and products, ongoing and proposed analyses as well as management of the production of Science and Engineering Indicators and a wide variety of other products. The Deputy Division Director will provide leadership and guidance to Center staff members, determine funding requirements, maintain overall management of survey and other contracts, prepare, and justify budget estimates and budget products, balance program needs within NCSES, establish priorities in data collections and analytical projects, allocate resources within the several NCSES programs and represent NSF to relevant external groups.

Professional and Technical Qualifications: Ph.D. strongly preferred or a combination of education and equivalent experience in in data collection methods or the analysis of statistical data, especially in reference to education, workforce, or research and development. Professional experience may include research, professional practice, teaching and/or management experience in the context of these fields/disciplines.
