Position Summary

The Office of the Director (OD) is offering a detail opportunity to serve as the Senior Staff Associate (AD-05), Office of the Director (OD). This detail is open to all qualified permanent NSF employees. The detail will be for a period as up to 12 months. For purposes of pay and benefits, the selectee will continue to encumber the position from which detailed. The individual selected will be required to file an “Executive Branch Personnel Public Financial Disclosure Report” (OGE-278) in accordance with the Ethics in Government Act of 1978 at the beginning and completion of the detail assignment.

Position Description

This detail will afford the individual unique experiences and opportunities for skill development, including the ability to see the entirety of OD’s programs and priorities. The Senior Staff Associate will have responsibility for a significantly expanded role compared with GS-15 or AD-4 positions. This individual will serve as a member of the OD leadership team, provide senior level policy expertise and advice, participate in strategic planning, and represent OD on internal and external senior level policy and planning bodies and at meetings with leadership at OSTP, OMB, the National Academies of Science, professional societies, and Foundation-wide task groups.

  1. Ph.D. or a combination of education and equivalent experience in a STEM discipline and/or STEM education.
  2. Knowledge of STEM education research and of current and emerging trends in STEM.
  3. Knowledge of STEM education policy issues at Federal and/or state level and knowledge of trends and issues in STEM.
