Fiscal Year 2023 Appropriations

On December 29, the president signed into law the Fiscal Year 2023 omnibus that funds the federal government for the rest of FY 2022, which ends on September 30, 2022. The Senate approved it by a 68-to-29 vote on December 22. The House passed the measure by a vote of 221 to 205 the following day.

The "Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023" (Public Law 117-328) provides $9.54 billion for the U.S. National Science Foundation, an increase of $701 million, or 7.9%, above the FY 2022 appropriation. It provides $7.63 billion for the Research and Related Activities account; $1.25 billion for the STEM Education account; $187.2 million for the Major Research Equipment and Facilities Construction account; $448 million for the Agency Operations and Award Management account; $5.09 million for the National Science Board account; and $23.39 million for the Office of Inspector General account.

In total, NSF received $9.876 billion for FY 2022 through the omnibus appropriation and the Disaster Relief Supplemental. Please see the table below for details. Numbers are presented in millions of dollars.
